Steve and Nancy Schrimsher
Steve went to high school in
Naples, FL and got a Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He
started boating early fishing with his Father in the Ten Thousand Islands.
Upon graduation from Tech, he bought a 40' Rhodes Cutter and cruised the
Bahamas for a year before starting a yacht canvas shop in Ft. Lauderdale.
Nancy grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to Ft. Lauderdale in the early
1970's where she started working for Steve in the canvas business.
Nancy and Steve were married 29 years ago in Ft. Lauderdale where they built
the canvas business that morphed into Gold Coast Tents with eventually over
100 employees. During that time they owned several sailboats that they
sailed extensively in the Bahamas. They sold the business in 1994 and
moved to Idaho to live in the mountains for a change of scenery. They
did real estate development and custom home construction in Idaho. But
the lure of the sea was too much and they bought an Island Packet 44 in 2002
and spent several winters in the Bahamas. In 2006, they
decided to do the Great Loop, so the the sailboat was sold and they bought a
44' DeFever Trawler, Salty Turtle.
In 2010, Steve & Nancy completed
cruising America's Great Loop plus an extensive cruise to the Bahamas
in Salty Turtle. They started Schrimsher Yacht Canvas in the
Stuart area and now live aboard, Salty Turtle, at Sunset Bay Marina in
Stuart. More than 30 years of
both sailing and power boating experience, plus their previous canvas shop
experience, gives them an insight into what the
canvas needs really are on a boat. They know from experience what
works and what doesn't. Steve has a USCG 100 Ton Masters
license and has thousands of miles of boat delivery experience. Let
them put their experience for You.
