Deep in the heart of Idaho is the beautiful Meadows Valley surrounded by mountain peaks and the Payette National Forest with 2.3 million acres of unlimited recreation area. Bordering to the east is the Frank Church Wilderness area, covering another 2.4 million acres. To the north is the Salmon River Canyon and to the west is the Snake River in Hells Canyon; two of the deepest canyons in North America.

Visitors to the valley stay in McCall and New Meadows. They can fly into Boise, Idaho’s capital, which is 120 miles to the south, and take a scenic 2 ½ hour drive along the Payette River to the area. Boise is serviced by the major airlines with commuter service to the McCall airport.

McCall is a resort town of about 3000 permanent residents. It has a variety of restaurants, shops, and lodging accommodations to service the many tourists and part time residents that enjoy the year round outdoor activities. The town is built around scenic Payette lake which is popular in the summer for swimming, skiing, and boating. Various outfitters offer whitewater rafting on the Salmon River to the north. The limitless backcountry offers unequalled hiking, camping, horseback riding, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and fishing opportunities. The winters draw thousands of people to snowmobile, ice skate, cross-country ski, and downhill ski.

Brundage Mountain Ski Resort is halfway between McCall and New Meadows. The Resort provides skiing November through April and mountain biking in the summer. There are several summer musical events in Brundage’s outdoor amphitheater which entertain locals and visitors alike.

Twelve miles northwest of McCall is the Meadows Valley (New Meadows, ID). This quiet rural community has remained relatively undiscovered. Dominated by large ranches, the few subdivisions that have been developed in recent years are divided into 5 to 40 acre parcels in the foothills around the valley floor with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Recent trends show that more people are requesting the space and quiet offered in the Meadows Valley verses the bustling tourist town atmosphere. The feeling in the valley is of quiet solitude, but access to supplies and restaurants is less than a half hour away.
